Antique Edwardian Sterling Silver Sugar Caster | Thomas Edward Atkins, Birmingham 1908

An exceptionally handsome and beautifully proportioned authentic Edwardian sterling silver sugar caster (sugar sifter / muffineer), crafted in a classic Neo-classical style.

The piece features a striking octagonal faceted body that sits proudly on a multi-stepped pedestal foot and is finished with an ornamental finial atop an intricately geometric pierced, pull-off domed cover. The clean lines and faceted panelling are typical of high-end early 20th-century British silversmithing.

A wonderful addition for serious silver collectors, historic dining displays, or as a sophisticated antique gift with genuine 118-year-old historical patina.

The caster is fully and clearly hallmarked on the lower collar of the body, with matching part-marks inside the lid:

  • Fineness Mark: Lion Passant — guaranteed sterling silver .925
  • Assay Mark: Anchor — Birmingham Assay Office
  • Date Letter: Lowercase 'i' in shield cartouche — datable exactly to 1908
  • Lid Part-Marks: Stamped with the matching sterling silver lion and date letter 'i' — confirming completely original matching parts

Condition

Lovely antique condition with wonderful character consistent with 118 years of history. We describe condition honestly so you know exactly what you are buying:

  • Light, authentic surface wear and minor tarnishing throughout the bodywork, which beautifully enhances the depth of the faceted panels
  • No splits, holes, major dents, or structural compromises — the pierced lid fits securely to the base
  • Left unpolished to preserve its historic patina, but would polish up to a brilliant shine if desired

Please inspect all photographs closely to verify condition details — the item pictured is the exact caster you will receive.
