Antique German Kugel Grape Cluster Large Decoration — Emerald Green | c.1900
An exceptionally vibrant, authentic late-Victorian German glass hanging decoration, hand-blown in the iconic figural grape cluster form by historic regional glass artisans.
The body features a beautifully executed, heavy furnace-blown glass structure shimmering in a rich emerald green finish with deep light-reflective qualities.
This striking botanical design encapsulates the heavy mercury-glass style craftsmanship that defined the late-19th and early-20th-century European holiday arts movement.
This specific piece represents a rare survival in holiday design history. While most antique grape Kugels measure between 3 and 6 inches, oversized variants reaching this monumental scale were produced in strictly limited quantities, making it an extraordinary, statement-sized addition for serious collectors.
Maker's Marks & Structural Details
The apex of the decoration carries authentic period manufacturing characteristics, showing no modern alterations or restorations:
- Hanging Cap: Authentic, period-correct grey white-metal/zinc alloy cap featuring an embossed, radiating stylised leaf pattern.
- Suspension Loop: A thick, crude iron wire hanging ring looping deeply through the cap, designed to bear the substantial weight of this heavy, solid glass piece.
- Era: Crafted in Germany circa 1890–1910.

Condition
Excellent antique display condition with exceptional structural integrity and genuine character consistent with its 100+ year history. We describe condition honestly so you know exactly what you are buying:
- Original Adhesive Seal: Displays visible historical plaster/glue residue surrounding the neck joint. This is the original factory bonding agent used during assembly. It has been strictly left untouched to preserve the item's historical integrity and prove the cap has never been replaced or married.
- Internal Silvering Rattle: Contains a tiny, loose flake of historical internal silvering/glass debris inside the ornament that rattles gently when moved — a textbook characteristic of genuine antique mercury glass.
- Structure: Free from active chips, hairline cracks, or hidden flaws. The glass body is entirely sound, and the hanging mechanism is secure.
- Silvering & Finish: Exhibits minor, expected internal silvering oxidation consistent with age, lending the piece a gorgeous, authentic vintage patina.
