Smiths Eastern Watch 8-Day Solid Mahogany Wall Clock

A pre-owned Smiths mechanical wall clock featuring a painted dial with black Roman numerals and a heavy brass bezel.

The robust "bowl" casing is lathe-turned from a solid four-section mahogany blank, designed to sit entirely flush against a wall while sealing the movement from dust.

Supplied with a winding key and a working 8-day movement, it can be used as a functional timepiece or displayed as a prominent mid-century horological accent in a home or office.

Maker, Origin & Material

Manufactured in England by Smiths, this clock was commissioned for the Eastern Watch Company, a prominent historical dealer in Bombay (Mumbai).

The fully enclosed "spun" case was lathe-turned using a traditional four-part segmented technique, originally favoured for marine bulkheads, railway stations, and institutional environments to ensure structural stability against warping and changing humidity.

Condition

The clock is in excellent, structurally sound pre-owned condition. The segmented mahogany case retains a rich original finish with minor, age-appropriate handling marks and tight, characteristic join lines from its four-part construction.

A localised patch of wear on the top edge of the mahogany case reveals the lighter wood beneath. This reflects its authentic industrial history and remains completely out of sight when the clock is wall-mounted. The painted dial displays a beautiful, even patina, and the original domed glass remains intact.

The heavy brass bezel has a warm, unpolished tarnish. The 8-day mechanical movement has been tested and is in working order. Please note, a previous owner has handwritten the name "PEBBLES PAZ" into the rear wooden backplate, which remains completely hidden when wall-mounted
