Vintage Garrard & Co. London 8-Day Brass Carriage Clock — 1985, With Papers & Key

An exceptionally elegant, authentic late 20th-century English mechanical brass carriage clock, retailed by the historic Crown Jewellers, Garrard & Co. Ltd. of London.

The piece was originally purchased in February 1985 as a prestigious corporate retirement presentation gift for a gentleman named Jim Bowie. A small, neat gold presentation plaque remains beautifully affixed to the lower section of the rear glass door, directly matching the clock to its original official documentation.

A wonderful addition for serious horological collectors, or as a sophisticated vintage gift with genuine mid-80s British character and complete provenance.

Maker's Marks & Stampings

The timepiece features clear official branding and factory authentication marks:

  • Dial Signature: "GARRARD & CO. / LONDON W1" — printed cleanly on the lower half of the enamel dial
  • Under Base Stamping: Engraved factory code "PR 32" stamped directly into the gilded brass base
  • Documentation: Official dated Garrard & Co. purchase papers from February 1985

Specifications

  • Material: Gilded brass framework with five bevelled glass panels
  • Movement: Mechanical 8-day wind-up movement (11-jewel lever platform escapement)
  • Height: 115mm (approx. 4.5" to top of case, excluding handle)
  • Base Width: 80mm (approx. 3.1")
  • Base Depth: 63mm (approx. 2.5")

Condition

Excellent vintage display condition with character consistent with 40 years of careful use & storage. We describe condition honestly so you know exactly what you are buying:

  • Dial & Hands: The crisp white enamel dial face, Roman numerals, and delicate spade hands remain in immaculate, flawless condition with no hairline fractures or cracks
  • Glass Panels: All five bevelled glass sections (including the top viewing window) are exceptionally clear, clean, and free of chips or heavy scratches
  • Brass Case: The gilded framework is structurally perfect but exhibits honest, age-related vintage patina. In bright daylight, there is light cosmetic surface tarnish and minor rubbing visible along the sharp corners and the high-contact edges where the rear door opens
  • Mechanical Status: The clock has been safely stored away in its box for some time. The movement appears complete and clean. While it ticks, as with all vintage timepieces kept in long-term storage, a light professional oiling/service is recommended if you intend to run it continuously

Please inspect all photographs closely to verify condition details — the item pictured is the exact piece you will receive.
